Show Recap | Knowing God in Everyday Life With Sarah Robb Purcell

Sarah Robb Purcell and her husband, Joel, have lived in served the Lord through ministry for around three decades both here in their home in The Woodlands, Texas and abroad with Sudan Interior Missions (SIM) in first Ghana and then Peru. She is a mother to three adult children, who were adopted while Sarah and Joel served in Peru.

A Sarah’s remarkable story of faith and obedience to God’s call begins with life in a Methodist parsonage and spans her life with testimony and a rich tapestry of faith in everyday life.

Highlights from the show:

1. I loved Sarah’s testimony about how God prompted her to the mission field early in life and when she and Joel returned home after Ghana she thought, Done with that. But God clearly had other plans that included 18 years in Peru where Joel and Sarah would adopt three children, Samuel, Katie and Luke. These children are now adults and reflect on their life in Peru as being the best memories.

2. Sarah used creativity to home school her children and was deeply affected by the culture of Peru that valued personal relationships and expressed it in the way they lived their everyday lives. She said, in western culture we know how to be friendly but the people she found in Peru knew how to be friends. POWERFUL TRUTH!

3. The BIBLE STUDY. It is really practical, not overwhelming and full of authentic transparency about how Sarah and her family walked out a journey discovering and knowing God in the context of everyday life.

4. Scriptures. As we were closing out the show, I shared several Scriptures about what in-depth Bible study in the heart of one who desires to know God deeply will produce. Mindy asked me to post them for your online so here it is:

  • Galatians 4:8-9 Slavery to the world is broken when what we know about God translates into a life knowing Him in intimacy.
  • Philippians 1:9-11  Discernment and wisdom follow after a life lived knowing God in personal relationship and intimacy.
  • Colossians 2:2 Understanding comes from knowing God through His Word.
  • 2 Corinthians 10:5 Scripture is the very Word of God (who is also defined in the person of Jesus) in it we find the power and authority to demolish strongholds and oppression in our lives
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 Sanctification – the process of transformation in our lives begins with knowing God through His Word

5. Last week on Facebook I posted this after seeing the movie “Gods Not Dead” (Highly Recommended): “Lots of thoughts tumbling and rolling through my heart and mind. I choose God. I choose to believe He gives me faith to encourage me through difficult times, promises from His Word to give me hope for the future, and His presence to give me peace while the intimacy of knowing breeds relationship. It’s the “knowing of Him” that makes the “knowing Him in” possible. #grateful #nolifewithoutHim

6. As I reflect on both the struggles of the last week and the show we aired just yesterday, I realize that everything Sarah shared in our time together and through her Bible study is really about living an everyday life with Jesus through the pages of Scripture. A journey through Sarah’s study begins with your own walk of faith, what you can learn about God through the lives we read about in Scripture as well as learning what God has to say about Himself – In His Very Own Words. It is a deepness of knowing God that brings forth a hunger and thirst for righteousness and a life lived fully with God. Sarah shared Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV) as her life testimony. In the NKJV it reads this way:  “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Consider the personal indication of the phrase God speaks when He says, I know the thoughts and plans that I have specifically for YOU…
